Almaty Schools Reopen with Flexible Hybrid Learning Schedule
Almaty's schools are welcoming back students with a flexible, hybrid learning schedule. This comes after careful consideration of safety measures to protect students and staff from COVID-19. The city's 270+ schools will host over 280,000 students with a mix of in-person and online classes.
First and fifth graders, along with graduating classes, will attend traditional classes six days a week. They will maintain a 1.5-meter distance and sit one per desk. Classrooms will be disinfected every two lessons using UV light. This is to ensure a safe learning environment for all.
Students in grades 6, 7, 8, and 10 will continue with distance learning. Meanwhile, first-year college and university students will resume in-person classes in the second semester. Dormitory occupancy will be limited to 30 people in colleges and 50% in universities to maintain social distancing.
The hybrid learning format for students from 1st to 5th grade will have a maximum of 25 students per class, as declared by parents. This is to ensure smaller class sizes and easier management. All schools in Almaty are fully equipped with disinfectant supplies for safety.
The transition to hybrid learning is part of Almaty's phased reopening. It aims to balance the need for education with the safety of students and staff. With over 280,000 students returning to classes, the city is committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment.
