AmeriCorps Funds NKU's Senior Workforce Program for Aging Workforce

AmeriCorps interim agency head Jennifer Bastress Tahmasebi has emphasized the significance of the Senior Workforce Program, a joint initiative between Northern Kentucky University (NKU) and Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC). This program, funded by an AmeriCorps grant, aims to equip adults aged 55 and above with career-building skills to adapt to the evolving economy.

The Senior Workforce Program, offered in collaboration with NKU's Haile College of Business, provides participants with college credits and the opportunity to complete the coursework in two years or less. Lee Kersting, chair of NKU's Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, lauds the initiative for its accessibility, empowering students regardless of age or background.

The program offers tailored courses in tax and finance, along with personalized support services such as career counseling, job placement assistance, and access to NKU's network of employers and industry partners. These services also include enhancing digital literacy and financial management skills, crucial for success in today's job market. Rhonda Chisenhall, NKCAC's vice president of community development, expresses enthusiasm about the partnership, envisioning low to moderate-income seniors securing jobs in the financial industry with livable wages.

The Senior Workforce Program, funded by AmeriCorps, is designed to enhance the skills and employability of adult learners in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region. To learn more or get involved, visit the NKCAC website.
