Announcement of the victors in the Solar Decathlon India (SDI) Contest 2024-25
The Solar Decathlon India (SDI) 2025 concluded recently with a grand finale hosted by Infosys, where Lambert Technovation Pvt. Ltd. was declared the winner of the Climate Smart Innovation Award.
The event, which took place at Infosys' campus in Mysuru, began on May 23, 2025, with student presentations to the Jury. Infosys generously hosted the event pro bono, providing accommodation and food for all attendees for four days.
The SDI is a year-long challenge for postgraduate and undergraduate students to design net-zero-energy-water, affordable, and resilient solutions for real projects in the buildings sector to combat Climate Change. In the 2024-25 challenge, 175 teams competed, comprising 2,100+ students from 150+ academic institutions, guided by 290+ faculty mentors.
The winners were announced across six categories. Team Anvaya from BMS College of Architecture, Design and Planning, and B.M.S. College of Engineering won the Construction Worker Housing category. Team Astitva from Manipal School of Architecture & Planning and Manipal Institute of Technology took the Multi-Family Housing division. Team MAA-EARTH from MEASI Academy of Architecture, MEASI Institute of Management, and B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology won the Office Building category. Team Kalpana from Manipal School of Architecture & Planning and Manipal Institute of Technology won the Residential Cooling Retrofit category. Team Centauri from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur won the Community Resilience Shelter category. Team Anvaya led by BMS College of Architecture, Design and Planning with B.M.S. College of Engineering as their partner institution won the Grand Prize.
Team Samarpan from Manipal School of Architecture & Planning and Manipal Institute of Technology was the runner-up in the Office Building category, while Team Samavet from SMEF's Brick School of Architecture and BRACT's, Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology was the runner-up in the Educational Building category. Team Gaia from Atria University was the runner-up in the Residential Cooling Retrofit category, and Team Bhumika from College of Engineering Trivandrum was the runner-up in the Community Resilience Shelter category.
The Solar Decathlon India is supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The Climate Smart Innovation Exhibition was held, where innovators from the building industry displayed products and solutions addressing climate change mitigation or adaptation. Ashish Goel, Founder of OctoLife, gave the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of climate innovators in the building industry.
Over 50 organizations offered internships and early career opportunities to the SDI finalists. The teams showcased innovative and versatile solutions of modular systems at very affordable costs, driving net-zero targets. The Solar Decathlon India 2025 was a testament to the bright future of sustainable and climate-resilient architecture in India.
