In a significant move to support cultural workers in rural areas, the Federal Rural Culture Worker program was launched in Russia in 2023. This initiative, part of the broader efforts to develop rural culture and attract professionals to work in these regions, aims to improve cultural infrastructure and support specialists working in cultural institutions outside major cities.

The program is designed to attract and retain young professionals in the cultural sector in smaller communities. It offers compensation payments to culture workers who relocate to towns with populations under 50,000, provided they serve for a minimum of 5 years.

Recently, the Republic of Komi held a commission meeting to select candidates for a one-time compensation payment for culture industry workers in these towns. Among the winners were Valeria Tebenchikova, Chorus Master at MBO "Meridian" Cultural Center, Pechora, Anastasia Bortnikova, Librarian at Branch No. 5, U "Central Library", Ukhta, Ekaterina Chekhova, Piano Teacher at UDO "Children's Music School", Usozero, Maria Kazakova, Ballet Master at MBO "Aikino Central House of Culture", and Darya Ostashova, Chorus Master at Ust-Tsilemsky Cultural Center named after T.G. Shishilova.

Marina Burmistrova, the Minister of Culture of Komi, expressed pride in the winners and noted that the program is significant support for culture specialists in small towns, villages, and settlements. She believes that the winners will enrich cultural institutions with creativity, traditions, and vibrant events.

The regional leader, Rostislav Goldstein, emphasized the importance of retaining young professionals in the republic. He believes that the program will contribute to the development of rural culture and the overall well-being of these communities.

The federal Rural Culture Worker program recognizes the great importance of culture in the lives of small towns, villages, and settlements. It aims to enrich cultural institutions with creativity, traditions, and vibrant events, thereby improving the quality of life in these areas.

While specific details about the compensation amounts and application procedures are not readily available, it is known that such programs aim to stabilize rural cultural workforces by providing financial incentives and improving living conditions. For more precise legal or financial details, consulting official Russian Ministry of Culture announcements or federal government documents from 2023 onward would be necessary.

The meeting was reported by the Ministry of Culture's media center, signaling the program's importance and the government's commitment to supporting cultural workers in rural areas. This initiative is a positive step towards ensuring that rural communities have access to quality cultural services and preserving cultural heritage in these regions.
