Army football standout placekicker leads pre-duty training camp
Trey Gronotte, the record-setting kicker who led the Army football team to victory in the American Athletic Conference championship and the Independence Bowl, is set to host his inaugural Gronotte Kicking Academy summer camp on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The camp, which will take place at Covington Catholic High School, is open to all ages and will be the final session of a series of six place-kicking training sessions that Gronotte conducted in June.
Gronotte, a recent graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, aims to share his expertise and help younger athletes improve their kicking skills. During his college career, Gronotte kicked 10 field goals, including a 39-yarder in the Army-Navy game, and converted all 54 of his point-after kicks during his senior season, setting an Army team record.
The camp will provide a supportive and rewarding environment for participants, with Gronotte offering individual teaching and guidance to help high school kickers take their skills to the next level. Many high school soccer players have also attended Gronotte's training sessions, hoping to apply their skills in football.
According to Gronotte, most high school kickers are trying to teach themselves by watching YouTube videos, but he believes that working with someone who has experience in the field can make a significant difference. One of the kickers Gronotte worked with during his sessions in June was Popham's 10-year-old nephew, Gregor. Gronotte worked with his neighborhood friend, Shane Popham, to develop his place-kicking skills when he was younger. Popham, a record-setting kicker who continued his football career at Wake Forest University, came to several Army football home games at West Point last season when Gronotte became the team's place kicker.
The camp on July 19 is limited to 20 participants, and each camper will receive a videotape of their training sessions with Trey Gronotte. The deadline to register for the camp is July 10, and interested individuals should send a text to 859-240-9469 to reserve a spot.
With a focus on improving kicking skills and providing a supportive environment, Trey Gronotte's Gronotte Kicking Academy summer camp is an excellent opportunity for aspiring place kickers to learn from a professional and take their skills to the next level.
