Celebration of Student Business Success
Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy Recognised for Boosting Graduate Start-ups
The Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy (AREA) has been making waves in the entrepreneurial world, supporting student and graduate start-ups that have created hundreds of new jobs and generated over £6.8 million in turnover.
The academy's innovative approach, which combines embedding entrepreneurship into ARU courses, hands-on projects, and real-world experiences, has been shortlisted among the top three finalists for the Entrepreneurship Catalyst Award.
AREA supports a wide range of ventures, from freelancers and social enterprises to healthcare start-ups and creative start-ups. The academy's efforts have been particularly successful in supporting 123 graduate start-ups across diverse sectors in the past two years, resulting in the creation of 399 jobs.
The Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) has reaped the benefits of AREA's work, with the university becoming the first UK university to receive the full five-year NCEE Entrepreneurial University Award. AREA's work has also contributed to ARU rising from 89th to 7th nationally for graduate start-ups.
The academy's commitment to ensuring that enterprise and entrepreneurship remain accessible to all ARU graduates is evident in its work towards embedding entrepreneurship across all subjects and campuses at ARU. AREA's submission, Empowering NextGen Entrepreneurs at ARU, was highly commended at the National Enterprise Educator Awards (NEEA) 2025.
While the exact nature of the award received by the academy was not specified, it is clear that AREA's efforts have been recognised and celebrated. Catherine Foottit, a leader at the academy, was also honoured at the NEEA 2025, although the nature of her award was not disclosed.
In addition to these achievements, AREA was highly commended at the NEEA 2025 for its impact. The academy continues to strive towards its goal of providing ARU graduates with different and exciting career paths.
