North Carolina Textile Foundation's Centennial Scholarship Program Helps Fashion Student Shine at New York Fashion Week

Sania Musti, a fashion and textile management student with a concentration in brand management and marketing at North Carolina State University, has achieved her childhood dream thanks to the Centennial Scholarship Program and Mr. Butts' enrichment grants.

As a young girl, Sania would rummage through her mom's closet and put on her own runway shows. Today, her childhood self would be proud to see her interning for Communa-K, a New York City-based casting and production company, during New York Fashion Week.

The Centennial Scholarship Program, initiated by the North Carolina Textile Foundation, provides up to $22,000 annually to students beginning their first year at NC State, specifically supporting those in the Wilson College of Textiles. The program covers tuition and educational fees, allowing students to focus on their studies without needing multiple part-time jobs. Additionally, it offers an additional $7,500 in enrichment funding that students typically use for internships, study abroad, leadership programs, or other career-building opportunities.

Sania utilized her enrichment funds to intern with Communa-K, gaining valuable hands-on experience and professional connections. During her internship, she assisted with fittings, worked with models, and helped coordinate a fashion show. Her internship was challenging, requiring her to navigate the subway schedule, keep track of multiple composite cards, and models.

Sania's most meaningful part of her enrichment experience was watching the Son Jung Wan show on the last day. She also assisted with castings and fittings for two fashion houses: Son Jung Wan and Bibhu Mohapatra. Sania believes that this won't be her last New York Fashion Week.

Sania expresses her sincere gratitude to the donor who made the enrichment experience possible. She also acknowledges the financial impact of the enrichment grants, as internships in luxury fashion are often unpaid.

Sania's internship experience has been instrumental in her education and career growth. She considers adaptability and the ability to work under pressure as essential skills gained from her internship. Sania believes that the Centennial Scholarship Program not only helps reduce financial burdens but also invests in experiences that enhance students' education and career prospects in the fashion and textile industry.
