Charity drive initiated by students to aid pediatric unit at Helios Clinic, Pforzheim

In a heartwarming display of empathy and solidarity, the Otterstein Realschule in Pforzheim has donated a collection of toys to the children's ward at the Helios Clinic in the same city. The charity action, named "Children Helping Children," aimed to bring comfort and joy to young patients undergoing treatment.

Under the leadership of the school’s charity or social engagement group, students and staff came together to gather various toys, ranging from board games, stuffed animals, puzzles, to books and other age-appropriate playthings. The toys, including XXL building blocks, a parking garage for toy cars, and colorful toy store equipment, were donated directly to the Helios Clinic in Pforzheim, where staff distributed them to young patients.

Educator Carmen Hartlieb expressed her gratitude for the charity action, stating that the children on the ward have many shining eyes due to the donated toys. The enrichment for the children's ward's playroom is overwhelming, she added. Angela Stark, an art therapist, also expressed her appreciation, noting that the donated toys would provide the children with a valuable means of distraction and a chance to let their imagination run wild during their hospital stay.

Joachim Ehrmann, the school principal, expressed enthusiasm about the charity action, praising the students' commitment to their peers. Julia Hitzges, the student representative who organized the campaign, handed over the toys along with Alexander Knodel, the liaison teacher for the student council (SMV). As a gesture of appreciation for the donation, a self-made poster and the Helios plush mascot "Heli" were presented.

The Otterstein Realschule is proud of its students' initiative, which demonstrates how children can actively contribute to helping peers in challenging circumstances. This initiative is a testament to the spirit of empathy and solidarity promoted at the school.
