Herb Alpert's Generous Gift Boosts Mimi Alpert Feldman Scholarship Fund at UCLA

Herb Alpert, the renowned musician and co-founder of A&M Records, has made a significant contribution to the Mimi Alpert Feldman Scholarship Fund at UCLA. His lead gift of $100,000, matched by Chancellor Gene Block's additional gift of $50,000 as part of the Chancellor's Centennial Scholars Match, brings the total new gifts to the fund to $150,000.

The scholarship, established in 1977 by Mimi Alpert Feldman's younger brother, Herb Alpert, aims to support music students at UCLA. Mimi Feldman chose to give back to her alma mater, with the scholarship intended to support the organization of her choice.

The impact of the Mimi Alpert Feldman Scholarship has been profound. Recipients have gone on to perform on national and international stages, pursue academic positions, or find jobs in the music community. One such recipient, Liliana Filipovic, was inspired by Feldman's gift to give back and is now a UCLA scholarship donor herself.

Antonio Correia Pina and his wife Simone Deleon-Pina, who were 'Mimi Scholars' in 2011 and 2012, credit the scholarship for helping them stay in music. They now pay it forward, being active with nonprofits across Los Angeles that have donated and purchased musical instruments for 10,000 LAUSD elementary students.

Mimi Alpert Feldman, who attended the luncheon honouring her scholarship, expressed her desire to continue being a friend and counselor to the scholarship recipients. She stated that her greatest gift is to hear from the scholarship recipients. At the luncheon, she was touched by the stories shared by the 'Mimi Scholars'.

The Mimi Alpert Feldman Scholarship, backed by donations from Herb Alpert and others, fosters education, learning, and personal growth for music students at UCLA, resulting in recipients finding success on various national and international stages, academia, and the music community. Herb Alpert's latest generous gift, paired with Chancellor Gene Block's matching contribution, bolsters the fund's impact on future scholars, nurturing the ongoing cycle of education-and-self-development and personal-growth within the music industry.
