CII's Model Career Centres Place Over 1.35 Lakh Job Seekers Annually
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is addressing India's employment challenges through its Model Career Centres (MCCs). These centres map jobs and skills, offering opportunities for employment, training, or apprenticeships. They've impacted over one million youth annually and placed over 1.35 lakh job seekers.
CII MCCs operate within a catchment area of around 100 sq. km, covering 3-4 adjacent districts. They provide career assessment, counselling, skills upgradation, and placement opportunities. In 2019, their online initiative CII ApnaJob saw a significant surge in job offers in sectors like e-Commerce, Logistics, BPO, and Healthcare.
The centres undertake market sizing exercises to estimate employment opportunities and skill requirements in their area. This helps address the challenge of creating one million jobs every month, exacerbated by skill mismatch and unemployability. India adds about 12 million young people to its workforce annually, making CII's efforts crucial.
Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown, CII MCCs continue to offer counselling services, job matching, and employment market analytics. Their impact is evident, having provided career counselling to over 4.21 lakh youth and employment to 1.35 lakh job seekers. Through these centres, CII is helping to bridge the skill gap and connect youth with employment opportunities.
