City Council of Haar decides to construct a school within the old MSD edifice

In a significant decision, the Haar City Council has given the green light to establish a new school campus at Lindenplatz, marking a milestone in the city's educational development. The project, which includes a Fachoberschule (FOS) for 1300 students and a Realschule for 700 students, is expected to cost around 155 million euros.

The decision was reached after a series of discussions and evaluations, with the city council members approving the four necessary resolutions to initiate the project with a majority vote, 24 were in favor, and 6 were against.

The former MSD building, located at Lindenplatz, will be the new home for the schools. This location was chosen after a long search for a suitable site, as a unified campus was deemed crucial for facilitating smooth transitions between the two schools. The current FOS, located on Hans-Pinsel-Straße, is a temporary facility that has experienced several water damage incidents in recent years.

The plans for the school campus have not been without controversy. SPD representatives have criticized the location, arguing that there were clearly better locations for the campus, such as Gronsdorf or near the recycling center. SPD member Horst Wiedemann, despite some reservations, voted for the project at the end of his term, emphasizing its importance.

One of the concerns raised by SPD representatives such as Thomas Fäth and Peter Schiessl is the lack of sports outdoor areas. They fear that this will put additional pressure on the adjacent sports park. Schiessl also pointed out that the plans do not include sports outdoor areas, a point that will need to be addressed in future planning.

The Haar city council meeting saw Mayor Andreas Bukowski (CSU) give Nicola Tauscher-Meriç, the head of Haar's Fachoberschule, the floor to discuss the plans for the school campus. Tauscher-Meriç emphasized the importance of having both schools in one location, stating that it would provide a unified concept and facilitate smooth transitions for students.

The total costs are currently estimated at around 155 million euros. The district will cover the costs for the FOS alone and pay about 70% for the Realschule. The city of Haar must expect costs of approximately 16 million euros.

The FOS is currently a patchwork of additional rooms, making a unified concept impossible. The new campus will provide a much-needed solution to this issue. The principal of the FOS stated that FOS is a significant educational factor in Haar and the route to higher education via the secondary school and FOS should not be neglected.

As the project moves forward, it is expected that there will be further discussions and planning to ensure that all concerns are addressed and that the new school campus serves the needs of the students, the community, and the city of Haar. For detailed and current information about the Haar City Council’s positions or decisions on these topics, I recommend checking official Haar municipal council meeting minutes or contacting the council directly. The decision to establish a new school campus at Lindenplatz, including a Fachoberschule and a Realschule, marks a significant step in Haar's education-and-self-development, signifying a unified approach for facilitating smooth transitions between the two schools. The controversy surrounding the lack of sports outdoor areas on the campus will require addressment in the future to cater to the needs of the students and the community.
