College-Preparatory One-Week IVCC Program Empowers Students for Higher Education

The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) is offering the "Get Set" bridge-to-college transition program, a one-week course designed to help students smoothly transition into college life and academics. The program is set to run from July 28 to August 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. [1][2]

The "Get Set" program is a valuable resource for both new and returning students. It provides essential skills and resources to build confidence and ease the entry into college life. [1][2]

During the program, students will learn note-taking strategies, time management techniques, test preparation methods, and how to navigate campus technology. They will also receive guidance on how to locate and use academic support services, textbook interpretation, and scheduling formats. [1][2][3]

One of the key benefits of the "Get Set" program is the opportunity for students to build connections. After the course is over, students are paired with staff mentors for their first semester, providing a supportive network to help them navigate their college journey. [1][2]

The program also aims to boost students' confidence. By the end of the program, students should feel ready to tackle college demands and understand their support network from Day One. [1][2][3]

Students who complete the program receive a resource binder filled with helpful materials, some school supplies, and access to online content to supplement the in-person sessions. More than 70 students have graduated from the program since it started four years ago. [1][2]

The "Get Set" program at IVCC offers students a unique opportunity to become familiar with the campus environment before the start of the fall semester. Additionally, program graduates gain access to campus technology platforms before most of their peers, giving them a head start in their college journey. [1][2]

In essence, the "Get Set" program equips students with academic, technological, and social skills essential for success in college, fostering confidence and readiness as they begin their studies at IVCC. [1][2]
