Commemoration of World Children's Day at the North Rhine-Westphalia Parliament

On the coming Saturday, the state parliament will open its doors for a special event on World Children's Day. The highlight of the day will be the publication of the first Pixi book titled "Night in the Parliament".

This interactive book, aimed at making democracy tangible for the youngest, brings children closer to understanding the importance of listening to each other, finding compromises, and making joint decisions. The book emphasises that every voice counts and that children's rights are essential building blocks of democracy.

The story in the Pixi book features a Parliament of Animals discussing and resolving conflicts. Characters in the book include a blackbird, fox, wild horses, rabbits, and a dog as a caretaker.

Throughout the day, there will be a variety of activities for children to enjoy. A "Find Helene" rally, a children's lucky wheel with small prizes, face painting, drawing, crafting, and stamping stations will be available.

In the plenary hall, Checker Julian will be present, while Kampi and puppet Paul will teach children first aid. The Parliament will also host a travelling exhibition for primary schools, and "SpaceBuzz One" and "School_Lab" by the German Aerospace Center will be present.

A Kiddy-Fun playmobile and a police motorcycle will be on display, adding to the excitement of the day. For those interested in learning more about media literacy, a Fake News module by WDR will be available.

An exhibition called "Our voice counts!" by the children's protection association will also be present, encouraging children to speak up and be heard. A Democracy tour, allowing exploration of the state parliament with a smartphone, will be offered for those who wish to learn more about the parliament's workings.

President of the parliament André Kuper stated that the book aims to teach children about democracy and conflict resolution. He invites families to come and join the event, which will take place from 12 pm to 6 pm in the parliament. A guestbook for children and a digital guestbook will be available for attendees to share their thoughts and experiences of the day.

So, come along and join us for a day of learning, fun, and discovery at the state parliament on World Children's Day!
