Construction Begins on Zabaykalsky State University's Modern 'City Within a City' Campus

Construction of the Zabaykalsky State University campus has begun in the Zabaykalsky region. The project, supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2023, aims to create a modern 'city within a city' for learning, research, and leisure. Students have requested family-friendly facilities, and the design is set to be completed by December 2025.

The campus, expected to be completed in phases, will include residential buildings, educational facilities, a congress center, sports facilities, a hotel, and family dormitories. Students have requested children's playgrounds and temporary childcare rooms. The first phase, comprising dormitories and a hotel for professors, is scheduled for completion by 2028.

The idea for the campus emerged in 2022, with discussions between university management and Governor Alexander Osipov. The design is expected to undergo a state examination after completion. The issue of connecting to engineering networks is being addressed, with the Russian government allocating 300 billion rubles for this purpose. The university's rector, Oksana Martynenko, recently discussed the progress at a roundtable.

The construction of the Zabaykalsky State University campus, backed by the Russian government, is set to transform higher education in the region. With a completion date of 2028 for the initial phase, the campus promises modern conditions for students and staff, including family-friendly facilities and state-of-the-art infrastructure.
