Duisburg Schools Explore 'Cool Places' in Climate-Focused Art Project

The SchulKulturKontaktstelle Duisburg has launched an innovative project called 'Cool Places', enabling school classes to explore their neighborhoods creatively while learning about climate protection and urban planning. The project is part of the Children's Cultural City Map, which connects cultural education with social inclusion.

The 'Cool Places' series involves students using a thermal camera to locate cool spots during hot summer days. This unique approach combines art, climate awareness, and urban exploration. The project kicked off in September and October 2025, with many primary schools participating, including the GGS Marktstraße in Friemersheim. A class of 4th graders eagerly embarked on a neighborhood exploration, focusing on cultural landmarks and climate-friendly locations.

The 'Streifzüge Duisburg' project, part of the 'Hey du! Our Cultural City Map', has also resumed, further enriching the city's cultural education landscape. The 'Our Children - Our Future' foundation of the Sparkasse Duisburg is supporting these initiatives with a generous donation of €10,000 this year.

The 'Cool Places' project, under the SchulKulturKontaktstelle Duisburg, is fostering creativity, cultural understanding, and climate awareness among schoolchildren.
