Emmerdale Construction Venture at ITV
In August, Leeds City Council's Youth Service and the ITV Academy joined forces to launch an inspiring project aimed at making the film and TV industry more accessible for young people aged 11 to 17. The collaboration, which is still ongoing, offers a wealth of opportunities for the next generation of industry talent.
The project, which took place in Leeds, included a series of workshops led by the Emmerdale cast, including Roxy Shahidi, William Ash, and Ash Palmisciano. Activities during the project ranged from tours of production sets, script analysis, Q&As, audition techniques, and practical performances.
Drama students from Notre Dame and regular members of the Youth Service participated in the project, gaining valuable insights into the industry and building up their confidence, communication, and empowerment skills. The young participants were also provided with resources and opportunities from the ITV Academy, including industry information and useful resources to support their future careers.
One of the students, Ava, expressed positive feedback about the project, particularly enjoying the format of being given a script and performing it. Ava, along with her fellow participants, expressed feelings of inspiration and encouragement to continue pursuing their dreams in the industry.
The project received praise from industry professionals, with BAFTA-nominated film director and writer Suri Krishnamma expressing admiration for the talent and respect shown by the participants. Krishnamma commented on the event, saying, "I was truly impressed by the talent and dedication of these young people. They showed a level of professionalism and respect that is often lacking in more experienced individuals."
The project is a testament to the power of collaboration between organisations such as Leeds City Council's Youth Service and the ITV Academy, and the positive impact it can have on the lives of young people. As the project continues, the young participants will no doubt reap the benefits of the resources, opportunities, and industry knowledge provided by the ITV Academy and ITV.
The project, initiated by Leeds City Council's Youth Service and the ITV Academy, has expanded the horizons of the film and TV industry for youth aged 11 to 17, addressing both their education-and-self-development and lifestyle aspirations. Through workshops, resources, and industry connections, the initiative equips them with essential skills and knowledge, empowering them to pursue their dreams in the industry.
