The University of Innsbruck has once again triumphed in the Moot Court Procurement Law Competition, marking their second consecutive victory in this prestigious event. The winning team, comprising Alina Sepetavc, Anja Pfister, Eda Yilmaz, and RA Dr. Günther Gast, showcased their exceptional legal skills in a simulated legal contest that tests participants' abilities to apply procurement laws and litigation procedures in a moot court setting.

The competition, which took place in 2021, involved complex legal issues such as whether a contractor’s claim was monetary and met the "sum certain" requirement under the Contract Disputes Act (CDA), and whether the contractor had the necessary knowledge to satisfy the scienter element under the False Claims Act (FCA).

The University of Innsbruck team faced stiff competition from teams at WU and the University of Klagenfurt. Prior to the oral negotiation, two rounds of written pleadings were held, during which all teams demonstrated impressive legal performances. The oral negotiation was a close race, with the University of Innsbruck securing the victory in the end.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Müller, who co-organized the competition, praised the winning team for their outstanding performance. Dr. Günther Gast (chg), who provided proven support to the University of Innsbruck team, also expressed his pride in their achievement. Lawyers from renowned law firms acted as coaches for the teams, providing invaluable guidance and expertise.

Philipp Freudenberg, a student in the Master's program in Business Law at WU, was awarded the title "Best Speaker" for his exceptional performance during the oral negotiation.

The Moot Court Procurement Law Competition is a unique event that offers law students the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge in a practical and challenging setting. The 2024 Arnold & Porter Government Contracts Moot Court Competition is just one example of this, with its focus on simulated legal disputes related to government contracting and procurement.

The University of Innsbruck's triumph in the Moot Court Procurement Law Competition was not limited to legal skills; it also demonstrated their exceptional education-and-self-development through school. The competition, being a part of their learning journey, equipped them with practical experience in applying procurement laws and litigation procedures, essential for future school assignments and real-world scenarios.
