Vibin' with Babies: Hand Signs Take Over Arnstadt's Rainbow Kindergarten
Stepping into the forefront of innovative education, the Rainbow kindergarten in Arnstadt shifts gears, becoming the region's first certified "Baby Sign Language" (BSL) hub. The entire faculty has undergone extensive training, led by Camilla Leithold, according to city officials.
🔍 Did You Know? BSL is a modified version of German Sign Language developed by Vivien König specifically for use with infants and toddlers. This method empowers the tiny tot to express their needs and emotions through basic hand gestures, even before they learn to speak.
Sign language is no longer a silent conversation in the Rainbow kindergarten. It's now an integral part of daily activities, be it mealtime ("hungry", "more", "finished") or playtime. The team is guided by Cindy Keil, the appointed BSL coordinator of the facility.
"Bringing BSL into our daily routine is a heartwarming and empowering way to communicate with our young learners," shared Andrea Nimmow, the facility's director. "Not only does it enrich our interaction with the kids, but it also boosts their self-confidence and self-expression. With the certification, Rainbow kindergarten is setting a strong example for progressive early childhood education and strengthening bonds between educators, parents, and children."
