Foreign students arrive in Omsk, Russia.

Visitors from Urumqi, a sister city in China, were warmly received by locals. This visit is a return one, following last year's trip by students and teachers from Gymnázium No. 159 for a training program in China. The Mayor of Omsk, Sergei Shelest, announced this visit through his Telegram channel.

Foreign students arrive in Omsk, Russia.

In a continuation of the cultural exchange between the cities of Omsk and Urumqi, a group of Chinese students and teachers have arrived in Omsk for a visit that promises to be both educational and memorable.

The partnership between the two cities, established in 2015, led to the creation of the Center for Chinese Language and Culture at Omsk State University. This centre has been instrumental in fostering cultural understanding and language learning between the two nations.

The Chinese students will be living with Omsk families during their stay, providing them with an immersive experience to learn more about the Russian culture and practice the language. This aspect of the visit is designed to make the trip more personal and memorable for the guests.

The educational module prepared for the 15 students and 4 teachers includes Russian language and literature studies, as well as a cultural program. The cultural program includes city tours, visits to Omsk museums, and master classes dedicated to Russian culture. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Russian way of life.

The visit became possible after a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Omsk Gymnasium and School No. 12 of Foreign Languages in Urumqi last June. This reciprocal visit follows a trip by students from Gymnasium No. 159 to China last year.

Omsk Mayor Sergey Shestak spoke about the visit in his Telegram channel, expressing his excitement for the cultural exchange and the opportunity it presents for both cities. A delegation from Urumqi, China also visited Omsk to prepare for the arrival of their students.

The agreement on twinning relations between Omsk and Urumqi was signed in 2016, further strengthening the bond between the two cities. This visit is a testament to the successful implementation of this agreement and the ongoing commitment to cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

While information on who will be living with Omsk families this week is not yet available, it is clear that this visit is set to be a significant step in the ongoing cultural exchange between Omsk and Urumqi. The city of Omsk looks forward to welcoming its guests and making their stay a memorable one.
