According to the German Greens, the extra billions from the nationwide infrastructure package earmarked for Bavaria should be invested in schools, kindergartens, affordable housing, and public transportation. In a statement to the German Press Agency, Parliamentary Group Leader Katharina Schulze described the approximately €14 billion euros to be allocated over ten years as a "historic investment opportunity." The Greens aim to use 5.5 billion euros from the Special Infrastructure Fund for kindergartens, schools, and vocational training facilities, and €500 million for the renovation of swimming pools, with more than half the funds allocated to Bavaria.

Schulze emphasized the urgent need for investment in kindergarten and school buildings, stating that renovations and new construction are necessary to foster creativity and innovation in educational facilities. Suggested improvements include expanding common areas, school kitchens, dining halls, and energy-efficient features like green roofs, energy production, and cooling facades.

In addition, the Greens propose investing €3 billion in affordable and eco-friendly housing, which could result in creating 16,000 to 17,000 subsidized apartments. Another €2 billion would be allocated for climate-adapted urban development initiatives, such as cool, green spaces, shady playgrounds, and drinking fountains.

The Greens also call for the allocation of an additional €3 billion for investments in railway infrastructure, bridges, and E-charging stations. Funding should be used to modernize railway lines and tracks to improve the efficiency of transportation networks.

Schulze emphasized that the funds for the Special Infrastructure Fund agreed upon by the Greens in the federal government can only be used for infrastructure projects. Hence, she warned against misappropriating the money. Minister President Markus Söder (CSU) will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with these guidelines.

The Special Infrastructure Fund, totaling €500 billion, is designed to provide long-term capital for priority areas across Germany, such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and housing. The fund aims to modernize infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and rails, and ensure efficient transportation schedules. The fund will also support education and welfare initiatives, housing development, public transportation, and climate-friendly construction and energy transition initiatives. Bavaria, known for its leadership in areas like space exploration and nuclear fusion, may leverage this fund to drive technological innovation and climate-adapted urban development.

  1. "Investments from the Special Infrastructure Fund could also be channeled into vocational training facilities in EC countries, nurturing a skilled workforce for the field of environmental science, finance, and education-and-self-development."
  2. "Moreover, Bavaria, a region known for its technological innovation, could utilize funds from the Special Infrastructure Fund to establish high-tech vocational training programs in areas such as environmental science, finance, or education-and-self-development, fostering a sustainable and productive workforce."
