Future Workers Initiative Commences

In the vibrant region of Landshut, a new initiative titled "Future Makers - All Talents in STEM" is set to ignite the curiosity of young minds aged 10 to 16. This project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, brings together various organizations, including local schools, universities, technology companies, and regional economic development agencies.

The city of Landshut serves as the consortium coordinator, working closely with the University of Applied Sciences Landshut, MINT Forum Bayern e.V., Silicon Vilstal gUG, DOM e.V., and Weltacker Landshut e.V. These institutions and organizations have joined forces to create a platform that will bundle all MINT (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Technology) offers in the region and allow for bookings through a web presence created by the city of Landshut.

One of the key aspects of the project is the emphasis on the MINT topic of nutrition. Events will address global nutrition and sustainable food production, providing young people with a unique opportunity to learn about the scientific aspects of chemistry, physics, and biology in experiments. They will also have the chance to engage in hands-on activities like sowing, care, harvesting, and processing.

The University of Landshut plans to offer the "Wednesday STEM" format, providing practical and application-oriented insight into STEM themes for students aged 10 to 14. Meanwhile, the neighborhood center DOM is introducing a fixed MINT workshop with an open offer for young people to work independently.

To ensure that the project reaches every corner of the region, a mobile STEM workshop is planned. Cooperation with regional companies is also in the works for various actions, such as a "MINT Pass." The Silicon Vilstal initiative, based on a "virtual maker space," will utilize production resources of regional companies like 3D printers, laser cutters, and textile printers. This initiative focuses on playful discovery and creativity of children and young people, combining digital media, handicraft work, and modern technology.

The "Future Makers - All Talents in STEM" project is actively supported by the regional economy, secondary schools, and non-profit associations from the region. It aims to inspire young people for STEM subjects through experimenting, joint construction, and brainstorming solutions. Rooms and contact persons will be available during certain times in the DOM workshop, making it easier for young participants to engage in STEM activities.

By fostering a love for STEM subjects at a young age, this project aims to equip the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to tackle the challenges of the future.
