GMPromotes Secure Adolescent Driving in Over 4,600 Educational Institutions Instantly
In One Instant, a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, is making a significant impact on the lives of teenagers across the United States. The program, which has been supported by General Motors (GM) for over six years, aims to promote a safe driving environment for everyone.
The mission of In One Instant is to empower teens to make responsible driving decisions, and the collaboration with GM has enabled the program to be implemented in over 4,600 schools nationwide, reaching over 871,250 students in GM communities alone.
In One Instant's program is peer-driven, making safe driving personal and relevant for teenagers. The student-driven activities have been especially impactful, as reported by Carey M. Wright, former Mississippi State Superintendent of Education, who has recommended the program to every school district in Mississippi.
One of the program's core components is addressing drug and alcohol impaired driving. A forthcoming September event in Wyoming, coordinated with the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) and the Wyoming Department of Transportation, will focus on this issue, particularly for Indigenous youth.
The program has been praised for its effectiveness in creating a culture of safety. School administrators and guests have reported a profound impact on students, with one student, Juan M., sharing that the program made his friends take safe driving seriously after a neighbor was hit by a drunk driver.
Jesse Santiago, an In One Instant Program Guest Speaker, emphasized the importance of making better, safer driving choices, sharing that a different choice could have prevented his friend's paralysis.
The program instills lifelong safe driving habits in teens, ultimately reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities. According to the program's data, students who complete the program show significant positive behavioral shifts: 86% won't text and drive, 91% will not drive if impaired, 91% won't get in the car with an impaired driver, and 89% will wear seat belts.
For press information or schools interested in implementing the free-of-charge program, In One Instant can be contacted via Dahlia Greer at [email protected]. The collaboration between In One Instant and GM has not only educated students in GM communities but also fostered a culture of safety within their families and neighborhoods. The goal is to surpass 1 million students by 2025.
