Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Meet 2025 Emphasizes Growth and Sustainability in Madhya Pradesh
The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, hosted the Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Meet 2025 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on June 13, 2025. The event aimed to unlock growth opportunities in inland fisheries and aquaculture, with a focus on key areas of investment and support under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
The PMMSY is a government initiative designed to boost sustainable development and increase fish production through modern techniques and infrastructure support. The meet was part of a broader initiative to enhance India's inland fisheries and aquaculture sector, which currently contributes over 75% of the country’s total fish production, making India the second-largest fish producer globally after China.
Discussions and presentations during the meet highlighted strategies for scientific advancements in fish farming. These included improving feed formulations, diversifying species cultivated, and adopting innovations to overcome the predominance of traditional practices in the sector. The event also likely incorporated government-led support schemes like the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and other financial and technical assistance mechanisms to strengthen fisheries infrastructure.
The meet aligned with the Ministry's overall focus on sustainable fisheries management, livelihood generation for fishing communities, and increased fish production to meet nutritional and economic goals at national and regional levels. While direct detailed minutes or a full program agenda are not available, the Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Meet 2025 served as a significant platform to promote growth, innovation, and policy support in this vital sector, enhancing India's fisheries capabilities and sustainability efforts.
