New Appointees Join Northern Kentucky University Board of Regents
Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky has appointed Victoria Grooms and Greg Mecher to the Northern Kentucky University (NKU) Board of Regents. Their appointments come at an exciting time for the university, as it undergoes significant expansion and renovation.
Victoria Grooms, with over 17 years of experience in banking and the nonprofit sector, brings a wealth of knowledge to the board. She currently serves as the admissions director at Per Scholas, a nonprofit that provides tuition-free technology training. Grooms earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from Mount St. Joseph University. In 2021, she completed her studies at NKU, majoring in Integrated Studies with a focus on Interdisciplinary Studies.
Greg Mecher, a managing director for FTI Consulting and a seasoned political veteran with extensive experience at the federal level, also joins the board. Mecher, an NKU graduate and former student regent, brings a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the university's mission. He previously served as chief of staff to Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III through four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mecher was previously honoured with the university's Outstanding Young Alumni award in 2010.
Mecher replaces regent Andrá Ward, whose term expired in June, while Grooms replaces Ken Perry, who stepped down from the Board after five years of service. Both appointments are set to expire in June of 2026 (for Grooms) and September of 2031 (for Mecher).
Dr. Cady Short Thompson, NKU President, expressed her excitement about Grooms and Mecher's appointments. She looks forward to working with both Victoria and Greg and the entire Board of Regents to continue the work towards student success. Nathan Smith, Chair of the Board, shared similar sentiments, expressing his excitement about the new appointees.
The university is expanding with a brand-new science center, upgraded tennis and pickleball courts, renovations to the School of the Arts performance spaces, and the migration of the newly updated Welcome Center. Mecher, reflecting on his return to NKU, said, "NKU has always been a place of opportunity and possibility."
As the university continues to grow and evolve, the addition of Grooms and Mecher to the Board of Regents is sure to bring fresh ideas and a renewed commitment to the university's mission.
