Guards of Lackford Lakes Among the Youth
Discover the exciting world of conservation with the Young Wardens at Lackford Lakes! This event, designed for young volunteers aged 11 to 16, offers a unique opportunity for hands-on practical experience, getting outdoors, and earning the Duke of Edinburgh award.
Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including wildlife discovery, learning to use tools safely for practical conservation tasks, and carrying out wildlife surveys that contribute to managing the reserve. To ensure a smooth experience, it is essential that children wear long trousers and sturdy footwear with thick soles. Inappropriately dressed children may not be able to participate.
Young Wardens must be accompanied for drop-off by an adult who can provide emergency contact details. Unaccompanied attendance is not permitted. A packed lunch is recommended as there is a lunch break during the session.
While specific dress code details for Lackford Lakes are not provided, based on similar Suffolk Wildlife Trust Young Wardens groups, suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for practical conservation work and being outdoors are expected. Robust clothing and possibly waterproofs would be appropriate.
The cost for sessions at similar venues is around £7, and accommodations can be discussed for young people with specific needs. For full event terms and conditions, visit www.our website/eventinfo.
The event takes place at Lackford Lakes, with the meeting point marked by the What3Words address: pencils.reckons.complies. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the visitor center, blue Trail near the lakes or hides, but are allowed on Sayer's Breck path and Church Walk (except for assistance dogs).
For mobility requirements, contact the organizers to discuss specific needs as sessions are on areas away from footpaths. For more information about the event or to book your spot, contact the Lackford Lakes center at lackford.engagement@our website.
Join the Young Wardens at Lackford Lakes and embark on a thrilling conservation adventure, make new friends, and contribute to the management of this beautiful reserve!
