High School Whitney Recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School Awardee
Whitney High School Receives National Blue Ribbon School Award for the Seventh Time
Whitney High School in Cerritos, California, has once again been honoured with the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School award. This marks the seventh time the school has received this recognition, which affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating school environments where students are challenged and engaged.
The U.S. Department of Education announced Whitney High School as a National Blue Ribbon School on September 24, 2024. The school was recognised in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category. This category honours schools that are among their state's highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Whitney High School's principal, Dr. Tuesday Stoffers, expressed pride in the school's achievement. "We are thrilled to receive this recognition once again," she said. "It is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and staff."
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, established in 1982, has been recognising outstanding schools for 39 years. In 2024, only 356 schools were recognised nationwide, with 33 schools in California receiving the award.
This is not the first time schools in the ABC Unified School District have received the National Blue Ribbon School award. Alongside Whitney High School, Carmenita Middle School and Wittmann Elementary School were also recognised on September 21, 2022. This marks the first time these schools have received the award.
Whitney High School's impressive academic record extends beyond the National Blue Ribbon School award. The school has previously been ranked as one of the top 50 public high schools in the United States by BestSchools.org. In addition, U.S. News and World Report has ranked Whitney High School as the top middle school in California in their 2025 Middle School Rankings.
The recognition by U.S. News and World Report is based on student performance in math and reading/language arts state assessments. This performance is a reflection of the school's commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to providing a quality education for its students.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona stated that the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators. "These schools are models of educational excellence and should be celebrated," he said.
