On Sunday, August 31, 2025, the Schnitz School & Empfertshausen Primary School will open its doors for an immersive and educational open house event. Located at Andenhäuser Str. 236452 Empfertshausen, this unique event invites visitors to journey through the history of schooling.
Entitled "Time Travel Through School - School Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow," the open house promises a fun, informative, and nostalgic look at the evolution of education. The event will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at both the Old and New Schnitz School and Empfertshausen Primary School.
Visitors can expect a variety of interactive exhibits, activities, and presentations that showcase teaching methods and student life from different periods. Classrooms will be set up to represent various decades or centuries, complete with authentic furniture, teaching materials, and decor.
Hands-on activities such as writing with quills, using slate boards, or engaging with early educational games will give guests a taste of what school was like in the past. Presentations and demonstrations by teachers and students dressed in period attire will provide a glimpse into the history of schooling.
Displays highlighting changes in curricula, technology, and school culture through the years will offer insights into how schooling has adapted to societal changes. Opportunities to compare past and present educational experiences will encourage discussions about the evolution of schooling.
In the classrooms of the primary school, displays such as "How Was School Back Then? - How Is It Now?" and exhibits of school projects throughout the ages will provide a fascinating comparison. At the Old Schnitz School, visitors can view a traditional exhibition and apprentice pieces from recent years, guided by 4th graders.
On the Schnitz School grounds, a craft market, children's woodcarving activities, and a live performance by the Rakubrand will add to the festive atmosphere. Refreshments, coffee, and cake will be provided by the support association.
The event also includes exhibits, creative school projects, insights into historical school chronicles, and a robotics course for all ages. Traditional and modern woodcarving design techniques will be showcased, with teachers and apprentices providing insights into their craft.
