Dual Degree Program in IT Specialties Launched by Illinois Tech and Narxoz University

In an important step towards providing students with knowledge and skills that meet international standards, Illinois Tech and Narxoz University have partnered to establish a dual degree program in IT specialties.

The partnership, signed on January 13, marks a significant milestone in the cooperation between the two institutions. This collaboration is part of Narxoz University's strategic initiative Narxoz Global-2030, which aims to enhance the training of IT specialists according to international standards.

The dual degree will be offered through a 4+0 format, meaning students will complete their entire four-year education in Kazakhstan at Narxoz University. The program integrates IT specialties taught by Illinois Tech, providing students with exposure to American higher education standards and leading IT practices.

Students who successfully complete the program will earn two bachelor's degrees - one from Narxoz University and another from Illinois Tech. This dual degree program allows students to study under the new program in September.

Kazakhstan's Ambassador to the United States Yerzhan Ashikbayev has emphasized that this agreement will create new opportunities for Kazakh students. Mallik Sundharam, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Illinois Tech, emphasized the partnership's goal of shaping the next generation of IT professionals.

If desired, students can also spend one month to a year at Illinois Tech in Chicago upon graduation to complete the degree program. A delegation from Illinois Tech is scheduled to visit Kazakhstan in March.

The dual degree program with Illinois Institute of Technology focuses on preparing computer and data engineering specialists in English. In addition to academic training, students gain access to international academic resources and potentially enhanced career prospects through the international dual degree credential.

Moreover, students can access post-work study opportunities through Optional Practical Training with employers in the United States. This program offers an opportunity for students to transition to Illinois Tech in Chicago to complete the degree program.

The initiative aims to enhance the training of IT specialists according to international standards, contributing to the development of the IT sector in Kazakhstan. The dual degree program is a joint academic collaboration that enables Narxoz University students to acquire both Kazakhstani and U.S. degrees in IT-related specialties by studying curricula offered jointly by Narxoz and Illinois Tech.
