International Music Center at Park University Begins 23rd Season on September 5, Featuring Violist Carr and Pianist Petrova

The Carr-Petrova Duo, a renowned chamber ensemble, will be gracing the stage at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kan., on September 5, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. This extraordinary concert, titled "HERS," will celebrate the vision, strength, resilience, and contributions of females throughout history.

Violinist Molly Carr and pianist Anna Petrova, who form the Carr-Petrova Duo, have earned critical acclaim for their electrifying performances. Their collaboration began during their years at the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. In 2019, they made their Carnegie Hall debut, which was praised as "categorically astonishing."

The concert program for "HERS" is a testament to the duo's commitment to promoting female composers. It includes pieces such as "Elfentanz," composed by Florence Price, "Prayer" (based on music by Hildegard von Bingen), composed by Vivian Fung, and "Romance for Viola and Piano, Op. 23" (arranged for viola), composed by Amy Beach. The program also features "Halo," by Beyoncé and Henrique Eisenmann, and "Sonata for Viola and Piano" composed by Rebecca Clarke.

A highlight of the concert is the world premiere of "Magnitude," a piece commissioned by the Carr-Petrova Duo and based on music by the Palestinian Women Ensemble Daughters of Jerusalem, composed by Andra Casarrubios.

The concert program also includes "Three Romances for Violin and Piano, Op. 22" (arranged for viola and piano), composed by Clara Schumann. This piece, along with the rest of the program, promises to take the audience on a journey through the inspirations, battles, and accomplishments of eight fearless women, from the 12th century to the present day.

Tickets for the concert are $30 for the general public and $20 for students (not including fees), and are available in advance through Eventbrite. The Park University International Center for Music's 2025-26 concert season begins with this inspiring performance by the Carr-Petrova Duo.

In addition to their upcoming performance, Carr and Petrova hold faculty positions at prestigious institutions such as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Bard College Conservatory of Music in New York, and the University of Louisville (Ky.). They are also part of the 2024/2025 season, working with ensembles like the Juilliard String Quartet.

The Carr-Petrova Duo has been described as "ravishing," "enlightened," "explosive," and "irresistibly elegant." Don't miss this opportunity to witness their captivating performance at the "HERS" concert.

[Note: The next concert in the Park International Center for Music's 2025-26 season will feature the Park ICM Orchestra, led by guest conductor Timothy Hankewich, music director of Orchestra Iowa, on Friday, Oct. 3, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's Parkville Campus. Admission to ICM Orchestra events in the Chapel are free, but reservations are recommended for this concert at our website.libcal.com/calendar/ICM/FallConcert25.]

  1. To immerse themselves further in music beyond the "HERS" concert, audience members can explore the faculty members' roles at esteemed institutions like the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music, places where future compositions may be nurtured.
  2. Amidst their hectic schedules of teaching and performing, the Carr-Petrova Duo still finds time for entertainment, often unwinding with music that's not just educational-and-self-development related; for instance, they've been known to enjoy Beyoncé's "Halo."
