Issues in the Restrooms of Hellgate Facility
Hellgate High School is grappling with a series of issues in its bathroom facilities, as described by students and staff. The crowded conditions, vandalism, and hygiene concerns have become common topics of discussion among the student body.
According to Leo Kimpell, the bathrooms often house four individuals in each stall and lines at urinals, resembling a "rotisserie." Senior Oliver Hanson recounts a horrific incident where a lunchable was stuffed down a toilet and left unflushed.
The girls' bathroom, in particular, faces numerous challenges. Half of the sinks do not work, and the entryway is often clogged. An "Out of Order" sign is a common sight, blocking stalls and creating longer lines. Freshman Emilia Johnson finds the bathrooms unpleasant due to waiting lines and gross conditions.
The boys' bathrooms at Hellgate school are said to be worse, with constant vandalism and too few stalls. Many students choose not to use the school bathrooms at all, opting instead for the outdoors or nearby establishments.
These challenges can be attributed to several factors. High student traffic and inadequate maintenance, aging or poorly designed facilities, vandalism and lack of supervision, and limited resources are all potential contributors.
Custodian Bill Fischer has suggested "remedial potty training," including learning to flush the toilet, as a possible solution. Respect for other staff and students who use the bathroom, and custodians who clean it, is encouraged. It is also advised to use the bathroom for its intended purpose and avoid lingering in stalls or on the bathroom floor.
As the school administration works to address these issues, contacting Hellgate High School directly or reviewing local school board meeting notes or student reviews might provide targeted insights into the specific causes and solutions for the school's bathroom challenges.
