Headline: PMI Global Summit Series Africa 2025 Brings Together Leaders to Drive Purposeful Project Delivery in Africa

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is convening influential voices in Africa at the Global Summit Series Africa, an event aimed at driving transformation across the continent. The focus of the summit is to bring together project leaders, innovators, and change-makers to drive purposeful project delivery that addresses Africa's urgent challenges.

The Summit's Focus

Under the theme #AfricaOnPurpose, the summit aims to shift project success metrics beyond timelines and budgets to include how projects enhance resilience, foster inclusive growth, unlock sustainable innovation, and create lasting social value. The summit emphasises leadership development, technical expertise growth, and guiding the next generation of impactful, purpose-driven professionals.

Addressing Africa's Challenges

The summit is aiming to drive transformation across Africa by confronting complex, intersecting challenges such as climate change, infrastructure gaps, job creation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence. It aims to mobilise and elevate project management as a key delivery tool for Africa’s development agenda, which includes infrastructure, digital, and social programs requiring skilled professionals to bridge significant financing and implementation gaps.

A Platform for Dialogue and Growth

The summit provides a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and leadership growth to harness project excellence for tangible impact on Africa’s development challenges. It facilitates dialogue among senior project professionals, C-suite executives, governments, development partners, and emerging talent, thus enabling a combination of top-down and bottom-up peer-driven, locally grounded transformation.

Highlights of the Summit

The Global Summit Series Africa will feature a special message from Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank. Annita Mwagiru, Project Management Officer at the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, will also be participating, emphasising the importance of African-led innovation in shaping digital future. PMI Chapter Presidents from Kenya, Angola, Togo, Ghana, Namibia, and Rwanda will contribute to the dialogue at the Summit.

Senior executives from various sectors such as utilities, banking, education, telecommunications, sports, and music will share insights on building future-fit institutions. A highlight at the Summit will be a discussion on how project management can drive responsible technology deployment.

The Need for Project Management

George Asamani, MD of PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that Africa needs up to $170 billion annually to close its infrastructure gap, with a financing shortfall of as much as $108 billion. He emphasised that project management is key to delivery as countries advance infrastructure, digital, and social programs, and the demand for skilled professionals is urgent.

The Summit will serve as a platform for exploring the role of project management in unlocking Africa's prosperity. It aims to drive collective action to redefine project delivery impact and value, positioning project management not just as a technical discipline but as a strategic enabler to transform Africa’s economies and societies through purpose-driven projects that deliver social, economic, and sustainable value at scale.
