Thuringia Announces New Funding Opportunities for Volunteer-Led Projects

In a bid to strengthen volunteerism and support volunteer-led initiatives, Thuringia has announced new funding opportunities within the framework of the Thuringian Volunteer Act. These opportunities will be available from August 11, 2025.

The Thuringian Volunteer Act, established in 2019, aims to promote, support, and regulate volunteerism and voluntary engagement in the state of Thuringia. It provides structural support and creates favorable conditions for volunteer-led projects and organizations.

The new funding opportunities will offer financial aid to various areas such as homeland care, democracy, culture, sport, education, environment, social affairs, church, or civil protection. Funding amounts range from 5,000 to 50,000 euros for individual projects, and up to 100,000 euros for cooperation projects.

Claudia Heber, CDU state parliamentarian from Straußfurt, explained that extensive financial resources will be available to support projects in these areas. She added that measures that attract new members, support digitalization, further training, and recognize engagement can also be funded.

To provide more information about these funding opportunities, a digital information event will be held on Wednesday, August 20, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Guntram Wothly, Commissioner for Volunteering of the Thuringian State Government, will also be present at an event in Heber's office in Straußfurt on September 2, starting at 6:00 PM, to answer questions. RSVP for both events is required at [email protected] or 036376 610647.

The holiday week, initiated by the Thepra State Association of Thuringia, recently took place at the Weißensee Campsite, focusing on Brazilian culture. Children learned Capoeira, practiced acrobatic elements, and constructed their own Pandeiro (a small frame drum). T-shirt painting was also part of the holiday program, alongside mindfulness, team games, and community activities.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Autobahn 71 in the direction of Sangerhausen will have restricted traffic from August 11 to August 15 due to construction work. Traffic will be guided single-lane past the construction site, and the overtaking lane between Erfurt-Stotternheim and Sömmerda-Süd will be closed for work on protective facilities.

For more precise details about funding amounts, application procedures, or eligible projects, these are generally made available by the Thuringian Ministry for Social Affairs or local government websites administering the Volunteer Act programs.

  1. Volunteer-led initiatives in the areas of lifestyle, home-and-garden, education-and-self-development may benefit from the new funding opportunities announced by Thuringia, as these sectors are among those eligible for financial aid.
  2. To hopefully secure funding for a volunteer-led project focusing on education and self-development, one may seek guidance from the Thuringian Ministry for Social Affairs or local government websites administering the Volunteer Act programs, which typically provide detailed information about eligibility, application procedures, and funding amounts.
