Robert B. Millard Named Chairman Emeritus of MIT Corporation

Robert B. Millard, a distinguished alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been elected as the Chairman Emeritus of the MIT Corporation. Millard, who has served on the Corporation since 2003, will take on this new role effective October 2023[1][3].

Millard, an MIT alumnus with an SB in architecture and an MBA from Harvard Business School, has been a dedicated servant of the Institute for over two decades. He has held various key positions at MIT, including membership on the Visiting Committees for Physics, Architecture, Chemistry, and Philosophy & Linguistics[1][3]. Millard also served as Chairman of MITIMCo, the entity that manages MIT’s endowment, and as a member of the MIT Dean of Science Advisory Council[1][3].

In addition to his roles at MIT, Millard has enjoyed a successful career in business and finance. He is the co-founder and former Chairman of L3 Technologies, a Fortune 200 firm, and currently serves as Lead Director of L3Harris Technologies[1][3]. Millard is also a Director of Evercore and a former Partner of Lehman Brothers[1][3]. Beyond his business endeavours, Millard is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences[1][3].

Millard's business acumen and dedication to MIT have been evident throughout his tenure. He has served on the Executive Committee for 10 years and on the Investment Company Management Board for seven years, including as its chair for the last four years[1][3]. Millard has also been involved in numerous nonprofit boards, including the New School, the Population Council, and the Manhattan Theater Club[1][3].

In his new role as Chairman Emeritus, Millard will follow in the footsteps of John Reed '61, SM '65, who has served as chair since June 2010 and will become a Life Member Emeritus of the Corporation after the transition[1][3]. Theresa M. Stone SM '76, who was Executive Vice President and Treasurer at MIT (Retired), and Victor J. Menezes SM '72, Senior Vice Chairman, Citigroup Inc. (Retired), are also notable figures who have served on the Corporation[1][3].

Meanwhile, Rafael del Pino SM '86, Chairman of Grupo Ferrovial SA, has made significant strides in the development of private infrastructure during his tenure as CEO and later as chairman[2]. Del Pino, who obtained his MS degree in civil engineering from the University of Madrid in 1981, returned to the family company, Ferrovial, after graduating from MIT Sloan School of Management in 1986[2].

Other notable MIT alumni include Samantha F. O'Keefe '09, SM '12, Editor at TechCrunch; Ronald A. Williams '84, Chairman and CEO of RW2 Enterprises LLC; Ilene S. Gordon '75, SM '76, Chairman, President, and CEO of Ingredion Inc.; Alan M. Leventhal, Chairman and CEO of Beacon Capital Partners; Mark R.
