UCLA Composition Students Co-Orchestrate EDM Track for Wooli's 'Crazy'

In a thrilling collaboration, UCLA composition students Kian Ravaei and Robby Good have co-orchestrated the strings-heavy EDM track for Wooli's latest release, 'Crazy.'

Under the mentorship of Dwayne Milburn, Kay Rhie, and Richard Danielpour at UCLA, Ravaei and Good honed their craft in orchestration. Their hard work and dedication have been recognised with several scholarships and awards, including the James Horner Composition Scholarship and the Elaine Krown Klein Fine Arts Scholarship.

The recording for 'Crazy' took place at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, with Ravaei and Good conducting the 48-piece orchestra they assembled, which included more than two-dozen UCLA students and alumni. Among the performers was Masiel Medina, a cellist from UCLA.

The opportunity to orchestrate 'Crazy' came through a UCLA alumnus mentor. Ravaei and Good spent weeks editing orchestral parts and corresponding with over 200 potential orchestral musicians.

For Ravaei, the release of 'Crazy' was particularly exciting as it marked the first official gig for many of them in over a year. He expressed his admiration for the magic of orchestral music, as seen in the awestruck reaction of Wooli and Casey Cook during the recording.

Robby Good was equally satisfied with his role, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the orchestra and having Kian Ravaei backing him throughout the experience.

Both Ravaei and Good are supported by various scholarships and awards, including the Henry Mancini Award, the Stanley Wilson Memorial Scholarship in Composition and Brass, and the Jerry Goldsmith Scholarship. Robby Good is also an A. Atwater Kent Fellow.

The track, featuring Casey Cook, was released on January 14 by Ophelia Records. With its unique blend of EDM and orchestral music, 'Crazy' promises to be a standout track in the genre.

Engaging in both education-and-self-development through their studies at UCLA, Kian Ravaei and Robby Good embraced the opportunity to expand their horizons, venturing into the realm of entertainment by co-orchestrating the strings-heavy EDM track for Wooli's 'Crazy.' Amidst their commitment to music, Ravaei and Good were instrumental in assembling a 48-piece orchestra that included more than two-dozen UCLA students and alumni, showcasing their dedication and passion for the art.
