Mwita Mataro, a Salzburg-based solo artist and documentary filmmaker, is making waves in the Austrian music scene. His work challenges stereotypes and broadens understanding of Austrian identity, paving the way for other artists with migrant backgrounds.

Mataro's journey began in 2024 with his first German single, 'Es begann alles mit Feuer', marking his transition to a solo artist. His artistic vision includes confronting racist prejudices, as seen in his documentary film, 'Austroschwarz', which explores his childhood and experiences.

Experts hail Mataro as one of the most influential voices of his generation. His work fills an important representational gap in Austrian pop, giving it a new voice and redefining Austropop.
