Nature, Technology, and Community Enhanced Learning Adventure: Mühlheim Scholars Immerse in Outdoor Experiences
Mühlheim's KiJaS Program Offers Enriching Summer Holiday Activities
Over the recent summer holidays, the children and youth social work at schools (KiJaS) in Mühlheim, Offenbach, organised a series of engaging and educational activities for local children and young people. The program, funded by the Offenbach district, aimed to provide opportunities for social interaction, learning, and fun.
The first program involved eleven children aged 8 to 11 from Geschwister-Scholl-Schule. The week-long activities included a visit to the interactive museum Experiminta in Frankfurt, where the children explored exhibits about black holes, energy go-carts, and many hands-on experiments. Unfortunately, an outdoor excursion had to be cancelled due to inclement weather.
A second program, which included thirteen children and young people aged 11 to 13 from FEG and FES, aimed to foster exchange between the schools. The activities in this program were similar to the first, with a focus on building a community feeling, open exchange, and fun. The second program also included a visit to Schloss Freudenberg in Wiesbaden, with a focus on sensory experiences, especially related to hearing, music, and sound exploration.
On Tuesday, participants from both programs met at the youth center for games, craft activities, sports, and lunch. The day concluded with a visit to the Offenbach Weather Park for child-friendly weather information and outdoor activities. New friendships developed among the participants during lunch and ice cream at the youth center.
The Frankfurt Dialog Museum visit demonstrated how barrier-free living works in everyday life. The completely dark parcours guided by blind or visually impaired people sensitized participants to life with visual impairment. The week concluded with a successful combination of learning, fun, and community.
It's worth noting that participation in all programs was free of charge for all children and young people. The programs provided a valuable opportunity for the children and young people to gain new experiences and learn other perspectives.
In summary, KiJaS is a socially-focused school holiday program providing educational and recreational activities centered on interaction, sensory experiences, and teamwork for children and young people in Mühlheim, Offenbach.
