Nazarbayev University Makes Strides in Global Rankings
Nazarbayev University (NU), a leading institution in Kazakhstan, has made significant strides in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025. The university, founded in 2010, is ranked number one in Kazakhstan and Central Asia overall, and its Graduate School of Education (GSE) is recognised in the THE Subject Rankings 2025 for Education Studies [1][2].
The GSE offers master's and doctoral programs, aiming to produce graduates who can make a meaningful impact on the educational landscape. In the THE Subject Rankings 2025, Education Studies at Nazarbayev University is now placed in the top 200 [3].
NU's School of Medicine, established in 2015 in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, has also seen notable success. The university's Doctor of Medicine academic program has received international accreditation from the Eurasian Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Health Care (ECAQA) [4]. Moreover, the University Medical Center (UMC) at Nazarbayev University has received accreditation from Joint Commission International (JCI) [5].

NU debuted in THE rankings in 2023, placing in the 501-600 range. Since then, the university has made notable improvements. Medical and Health at Nazarbayev University has risen from the 501-600 to the 401-500 bracket [7]. Meanwhile, Education Studies has advanced from the 251-300 to the 176-200 bracket [8].
In addition to Education Studies and Medical and Health, four other subject clusters at Nazarbayev University are among the top 500 globally. These include Engineering and Social Sciences [9]. Arts and Humanities are also among the programs at Nazarbayev University ranked in the top 500 [10].
