The Consumer Center NRW has announced a new self-learning course titled "Making the ePA Work," designed to help individuals understand and effectively use the electronic patient record (ePA) system. This course, starting on August 18, 2025, is aimed at those insured under statutory health insurance who wish to familiarize themselves with the ePA without any prior knowledge.

The comprehensive three-unit course will guide learners through the structure, use, and benefits of the ePA system. Topics include accessing the ePA, navigating the interface, managing health data, and securely and efficiently utilizing the system. By providing clear guidance and practical steps, the course empowers individuals to take control of their healthcare information and collaborate more effectively with healthcare professionals.

One of the key advantages of the ePA is its ability to centralize, organize, and share health data with medical personnel as needed. This can lead to improved communication and self-management of health. The course covers these benefits in detail, helping to boost health literacy related to digital health records and reduce barriers to technology use in healthcare.

The course is self-paced, without any time constraints, allowing learners to complete it whenever it suits them. Registering for the course and finding more information about the ePA can be done at www.verbraucherzentrale.nrw/meine-epa.

On August 18, 2025, a new course section on registering with the ePA app will be unlocked. The course also offers a free Zoom talk with experts from the Consumer Center NRW on August 20, 2025, from 5 to 6 pm, providing an opportunity to ask personal questions.

Sabine Wolter, health law expert and acting head of the Health and Care Market group at the Consumer Center NRW, has stated that the course offers a safe and informed introduction to the digital healthcare system. For more information about the ePA, visit www.verbraucherzentrale.nrw/node/57223.

Starting in October 2025, the ePA will be mandatory for all medical practices, pharmacies, and hospitals. By taking the "Making the ePA Work" course, individuals can ensure they are well-prepared for this change and can confidently manage their personal health information within the digital healthcare system.

The 'Making the ePA Work' course, accessible via www.verbraucherzentrale.nrw/meine-epa, provides comprehensive learning about the electronic patient record (ePA) system, including online education on registering with the ePA app and managing health data. Started on August 18, 2025, this self-paced course encourages individuals' education-and-self-development in the realm of digital health records, fostering improved communication and self-management of health.
