The British Embassy in Buenos Aires is currently seeking an Economist to join its Prosperity Team. The successful candidate will work alongside colleagues from the Prosperity Team and Prosperity Team colleagues at the Economist Intelligence Unit to identify economic trends in commercial sectors that could lead to opportunities for the UK.

The Economist's primary role will be to research, analyze, and report on the Argentine economy and economic policies for UK Government departments. This will involve monitoring and analyzing economic and trade developments in Argentina and the region, advising the embassy and UK government departments on economic issues and opportunities, and supporting trade and investment promotion activities.

The ideal candidate should possess a university degree in Economics, International Relations, Political Science, or a related field, and have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience, potentially in economic analysis, trade promotion, policy advising, or international economic relations. Strong analytical skills, knowledge of economic trends, trade, and investment climates are essential, as is the ability to analyze and report on economic developments and their impact on bilateral relations.

Excellent communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement, are also required. Fluency in English is a must, with knowledge of Spanish being highly beneficial for Buenos Aires. The candidate must also be able to build their own network of contacts in Argentina among government officials, academics, and private-sector analysts working on economic and financial issues.

The Economist will produce monthly economic reports and conduct presentations that are accessible to non-technical audiences. They will also develop and maintain relationships with local private sector and government officials, as well as with UK contacts.

The job is being offered on a full-time permanent contract, with working hours from Monday to Thursday 9 to 17.30hs (with one hour break for lunch) and Fridays 9 to 14hs. The successful candidate will be entitled to 25 working days leave a year and 14 days public holidays (a mixture of British and Argentine public holidays).
