Park University Organizes First In-Person Graduation Ceremony in Kansas City Area Following a Two-Year Absence
Adelaida V. Severson, a trailblazer in the satellite communications industry and a member of Park University's Board of Trustees, will deliver the keynote address at the university's Kansas City Area Fall Commencement on December 11, 2021.
The ceremony, which will be held at the Community of Christ Auditorium in Independence, Mo., starting at 10 a.m., will see 316 students eligible to graduate and participate in the event. Of these, 200 are scheduled to receive a bachelor's degree, associate degree, and/or undergraduate certificate, while 116 will receive a master's degree and/or graduate certificate.
Severson, who also serves as the President & CEO of Bushtex Inc., co-founded with her husband, Barry, in 1994, specializes in remote broadcast transmissions worldwide. The company's customers range from television networks to corporations and government agencies.
Severson's career reflects significant leadership and innovation in a traditionally male-dominated technical field. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and International Relations from the University of Southern California, a Master of Mass Communication degree from Arizona State University (ASU), and a Doctorate degree in Public Administration from the same institution.
In addition to her successful career, Severson is also actively involved in community work. She has been a board member of various civic organizations in the Gilbert area and serves as chair of the HD (Historical District) South Gilbert Historical Museum Campaign.
Severson's commitment to community upliftment is evident in her public speaking engagements where she shares her personal and professional journey to inspire progress and empower others, particularly women, in STEM and communications industries. She is a member of the 2020-21 Flinn-Brown Fellowship, a program of the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership.
The Park University commencement ceremony is a ticketed event due to capacity limitations and pandemic social distancing guidelines. All individuals in attendance are expected to wear face masks/coverings. More information about the ceremony can be found at the specified website.
This will be Park University's first in-person commencement since December 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
While a detailed list of formal awards was not found in the current search results, Severson's role as a "trailblazer" and invited speaker in industry events suggests recognition for her contributions and leadership in telecommunications.
