Park University's International Music Orchestra to Kick Off 2021-22 Season with First Performance on October 1st

On October 1, 2021, at 8 p.m., the Park University International Center for Music (ICM) will present its first concert of the 2021-22 season. The opening concert, taking place inside the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus, will be under the direction of Filippo Ciabatti, D.M.A., the director of the Dartmouth (College) Symphony Orchestra.

The concert promises a captivating blend of brooding melancholy, great tenderness, and excitement. Filippo Ciabatti has selected three familiar works for the program, including Mendelssohn's "The Hebrides" overture, also known as "Fingal's Cave". This composition, penned by Felix Mendelssohn, was written to evoke impressions of the coast of Scotland.

Another highlight of the concert is Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor". Pianist Kyoshiro Hirama, a 2020 Park ICM graduate and current ICM graduate student pursuing a Master of Music in Performance degree, will be the featured soloist. This piece illustrates the many impressions of conflict that occurred in Vienna, Austria, during the Napoleonic Wars.

The concert concludes with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Symphony No. 38 in D Major (K. 504)", popularly known as the "Prague Symphony". This symphony was written for Mozart's return visit to the city where his opera, The Marriage of Figaro, had been enthusiastically received.

Admission to the concert is free, but reservations are required by emailing Gus Fernandez Agreda at their website. Masks are required inside the Chapel, and social distance seating will be implemented to ensure the safety of all attendees.

This concert marks the beginning of a series of performances by the ICM Orchestra, with a roster of guest conductors scheduled throughout the season. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the magical fusion of music and emotion as the Park University International Center for Music kicks off its new season.

  1. Attendees of the Park University International Center for Music (ICM) concert on October 1 can expect a blend of education and self-development, as the program features works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Mozart, accompanied by insights into the historical and cultural contexts of each piece.
  2. As a pleasant diversion from the concert's themes of education and self-development, the ICM will offer a touch of entertainment through the musical stylings of fictional operas, as Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" provided an influential example of Vienna's musical scene during the Napoleonic Wars, and Mendelssohn's "The Hebrides" evokes the breathtaking coast of Scotland.
