Peer Advisors from Conservatory
In the unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Oberlin College's ConPAL (Conservatory Peer Advising Leaders) program has risen to the occasion, collaborating with the PAL Program to maintain connections and support among first-year students.
As part of the expanded PAL Program, the ConPAL program encourages social connections and friendships among students who play different instruments. This year, the PAL Program has expanded to better support students transitioning to Oberlin during these unprecedented times.
The ConPAL program, composed of trained student leaders, assists first-year students during Orientation and the fall semester. Their goal is to help new students make lasting friendships while learning how to succeed academically at Oberlin. Being part of a ConPAL team means students will go through new experiences with others for support and timely information.
In addition to curricular activities, ConPAL cohorts take part in many social activities together. These include virtual events, meeting over lunch, going out for ice cream, and participating in a Game Night at Hales Gymnasium (when safe to do so). The ConPAL program continues to help first-year students use Oberlin's academic and developmental advising system to its full potential.
The changes to the PAL Program aim to meet the unique needs of students during the pandemic. While specific details about the changes at Oberlin may not be readily available, it is known that many colleges and conservatories have adjusted peer advising, learning, or support programs during the pandemic by moving to virtual formats, reducing in-person interaction, or modifying program requirements to accommodate remote learning and health safety protocols.
For accurate and updated information about Oberlin's ConPAL and PAL programs, it is recommended to consult Oberlin College’s official communications or contact the college’s student support services directly. The ConPAL program, in conjunction with the PAL Program, offers support and opportunities for social interaction during the first week of classes and throughout the fall semester, ensuring a smooth transition for first-year students at Oberlin College.
