Political Upheaval: January 25, 2019 Edition
In the world of education, Park University continues to shine, with a multitude of recent achievements and exciting developments.
On February 11, the documentary "The Jazz Ambassadors" will be screened at 6 p.m. in the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater, located within Alumni Hall on the University's Parkville Campus. This event is part of Park University's Year of Engagement Documentary Series.
Park University has also been recognised by U.S. News & World Report in its annual rankings of best online programs for 2019. The University's online graduate business programs ranked No. 82 (tie), a significant rise of 10 spots from the 2018 ranking.
In the realm of sports, Park University has made a significant move by appointing Ashley Jones as its first esports coach. Jones began her duties on January 7 and oversees Park's seven-member esports team, which includes three female student-athletes. Despite limited information about Jones's background and qualifications, her appointment marks an exciting step forward for Park University's esports program.
Art and culture are also thriving at Park University. An exhibit featuring paintings by Andrea K. Lee, Ph.D., and quilts by her grandmother Enid Lee is on display in Park University's Campanella Gallery through February 28.
In the musical sphere, a concert featuring International Center for Music Artist-in-Residence Behzod Abduraimov is scheduled for January 19. A preview of this event appeared in The Kansas City Star on January 13.
Park University has also been honoured by VIQTORY (formerly Victory Media) as a 2019-2020 Military Friendly School at the silver level.
The University's esports team will compete in League of Legends via the National Association of Collegiate Esports. Their home will be in the Parkade, a state-of-the-art gaming area located in the Park Avenue area of the Mabee Learning Center/Academic Underground on the Parkville Campus.
In addition to these events, Park University has partnered with the National Archives at Kansas City to commemorate the University's Year of Engagement during the 2018-19 academic year.
On the academic front, Kathryn (Katie) A. Ervin, Ed.D., has been appointed as associate vice president for academic operations at Park University. Ervin will oversee the operation of multiple academic systems and processes within the Office of Academic Affairs.
Several faculty members have also been making waves in their respective fields. Henry Roehrich, Ph.D., associate professor of management and marketing, served as a judge for the 2018-19 American Marketing Association Collegiate Case Competition. Jolene Lampton, Ph.D., associate professor of management, was quoted in an article on "How Organizations Can Rebuild Trust from the Ground Up" that appeared on the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics blog.
In the arts, a collection of more than 1,000 prints at Missouri Western State University donated by William Eickhorst, Ed.D., Park University adjunct instructor of fine art, was featured in the school's Griffon News on January 15. A story about J.T. Daniels, '11, an artist, appeared in the Northeast (Kansas City, Mo.) News on January 1.
Finally, Matt Harris, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, was interviewed for a story that aired on KCTV in Kansas City on January 7 related to the partial federal government shutdown. Bob Kendrick, '85, who serves as president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo., was featured on the La Vida Baseball website in January.
