Pope Leo XIV Urges Peace, Climate Action, and Responsible Discourse

Pope Leo XIV has addressed several global issues in recent days, from the conflict in Gaza to climate change. He has also expressed concern over the language used by a U.S. official regarding war and nuclear weapons.

The Pope emphasised the importance of a ceasefire and the release of hostages in the Gaza peace plan. He also commented on the 20-point peace plan, hoping Hamas accepts it within the given timeframe. Meanwhile, he expressed hope for no violence and respect for people regarding the flotilla approaching Gaza.

On the tenth anniversary of Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato si', Pope Leo XIV will preside over the 'Celebration of Hope'. This event will bring together climate experts, civil society representatives, and institutional delegates from around the world. The Pope will also attend the international event 'Raising Hope for Climate Justice', welcoming over 400 religious leaders at the Focolare Movement's Mariapoli Centre near Castel Gandolfo.

The Pope found the language used by U.S. Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth concerning war, including nuclear weapons, worrying. He did not comment on the specifics of the ongoing trial in the Vatican concerning the management of Holy See funds, stating it must proceed without interference.

Pope Leo XIV's calls for peace and climate action highlight his ongoing commitment to global issues. His concern over the language used by U.S. officials serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible discourse, particularly in matters of conflict and nuclear weapons.
