Pope Leo XIV's 'Dilexi Te' Apostolic Exhortation Focuses on Poverty and the Poor
Pope Francis has signed his first apostolic exhortation, 'Dilexi Te' ('I Have Loved You'), which focuses on poverty and the poor. The document will be released on October 9, 2025, and emphasizes love for the poor without targeting any individual.
The exhortation, 'Dilexi Te', is set to be published on October 9. It includes chapters dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, the cry of the poor, ideological prejudices, and the true riches of the church. Pope Francis marked the Jubilee of Migrants and the Jubilee of the Missions, stressing the choice between serving God and justice or money and inequity. He discussed this choice in his catechesis, based on St. Luke's account of Pharisees who loved money.
Pope Francis highlighted St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi as models of understanding the Gospel and choosing a life of poverty as Jesus did. He emphasized that the church remains young and attracts young people when it follows the right master, Jesus Christ. Choosing God leads to hope and a life of forgiveness and mercy, while choosing money leads to spiritual sadness.
Pope Francis invited people to pray for young people and to be a church that serves God and the poor, opening the door of hope to the world. He prayed for a church that does not serve money or itself, but the kingdom of God and his justice. The apostolic exhortation 'Dilexi Te' is expected to provide guidance on these themes and inspire reflection and action.
