In the ever-evolving world of technology, one author has recently found themselves captivated by a unique piece of equipment – a curved monitor, the V3456C, generously loaned by ViewSonic. This shift in office setup has not only brought about a new immersive viewing experience but also sparked a conversation on sustainability and repurposing old gear.
Before diving into the captivating world of curved monitors, the author, who once wore a college ring from Florida Atlantic University, made a decision to put the ring aside and store it away. However, a recent encounter with the ring and an upcoming guest lecture at FAU led to a renovation process, involving a local jeweler, to clean up, resize, and remove the Social Security Number engraved inside the ring. The ring now finds itself rotating on the author's right-ring finger, a testament to its newfound significance.

The author found that the monitor takes up more real estate on the desk compared to the previous one. However, the author has not found a way to convert their standard widescreen monitor into a curved form factor. If the decision is made to upgrade, the old monitor may have to be discarded. But, in line with the Pro AV industry's emphasis on sustainability, the author suggests repurposing old gear for secondary tasks when possible, and disposing of it responsibly when it's truly end-of-life.
