Schnevdingen KGS Introduces Base Level for Grades 5 & 6 to Ease School Choice Pressure

The Cooperative Comprehensive School (KGS) in Schneverdingen is set to introduce a base level for grades 5 and 6, starting next school year. This new system aims to simplify school choice for both children and parents by delaying the selection of a school branch until after grade 6.

The KGS in Schneverdingen is the second school in the state to implement this concept, following the KGS in Wiesmoor. The idea was developed through collaborative discussions involving parents, teachers, students, and the state school authority, with strong backing from the school board and general conference.

Starting in the next school year, 5th graders will be taught together in most subjects without prior selection of a school branch. This change addresses parents' concerns about the early pressure of choosing an upper school form during grade 4. The division into school branches will now occur in grade 7, with the decision made by the final conference at the end of grade 6.

Principal of the KGS in Schneverdingen believes that the previous separation of students into school branches in grade 5 was too early. The new base level aims to provide longer shared learning, reducing the stress of early school choice.

The KGS in Schneverdingen's new base level for grades 5 and 6 is designed to make school choice easier for children and parents. Starting next school year, 5th graders will learn together, with the decision on school branches delayed until the end of grade 6. The concept, developed through collaboration with various stakeholders, seeks to reduce pressure on young students.
