School Holidays for the 2025/2026 Academic Year in Russia Announced
The Russian Ministry of Education has released the school holiday dates for the upcoming 2025/2026 academic year, providing students and families with much-needed advance notice.
Under the quarter-term education system, the holidays are as follows:
- Autumn Holiday: October 25 to November 4, 2025 (inclusive), including public holidays on November 3 and 4.
- Winter Holiday: December 31, 2025, to January 11, 2026.
- Spring Holiday: March 28 to April 5, 2026.
- Summer Holiday: May 27 to August 31, 2026.
The Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks are all non-consecutive, ensuring that students have regular periods of rest throughout the academic year. The duration of each school holiday is specific and clearly defined, with the Winter break lasting 12 days and the other breaks ranging from 9 to over 3 months.
The Ministry mandates these minimum holiday durations to ensure adequate rest periods, with the head of the ministry emphasizing that the duration of school holidays should be no less than seven calendar days. The school holidays for the academic year 2026 will not include any public holidays outside of the mentioned dates.
The Summer holiday, which lasts from late May to the end of August, is particularly noteworthy, providing students with a vacation duration of over three months. This extended break is intended to provide students with a comprehensive rest period before the start of the new academic year.
For schools following the quarter-term system, these dates are recommended; however, actual school calendars can vary slightly by region or school. Nonetheless, they generally follow these guidelines.
