School safety during commute
In a bid to enhance safety on school routes and make children more visible, the KRÜGER GROUP has donated reflective safety vests to first-graders at municipal primary schools in Bergisch Gladbach. This marks the second time the company has supported such an initiative in 2025.
The Infrastructure and Project Company Bergisch Gladbach (IP GL) GmbH, responsible for traffic safety measures in the city, has released a press statement about the safety vest donation. Willi Schmitz, one of the managing directors of IP GL, expressed a desire to equip as many first-graders as possible with these vests.
Good visibility in road traffic is crucial, especially during the darker season, according to Nurten Bongard, Senior Communication Manager of the KRÜGER GROUP. The donation aims to provide parents and children with a good feeling for the start of the day, as well as contribute to more safety on the school route.
On August 28, 2025, 1,070 schoolchildren started the school year at municipal primary schools in Bergisch Gladbach, and they were fortunate enough to receive these safety vests. The official handover of the vests will take place at the Paffrath Community Primary School on September 17, 2025, during the European Mobility Week.
Susanne Heuckmann, principal of the Paffrath Community Primary School, expressed the children, parents, and teachers' happiness about the safety vests. Many students at the primary schools are fortunate enough to walk to school, and the reflective vests offer additional safety in road traffic.
The handover ceremony will take place on the schoolyard of the GGS Paffrath, in the presence of school management, first-graders, IP GL managing directors, and KRÜGER GROUP representatives. After the handover at the Paffrath Community Primary School, the remaining primary schools will receive the safety vests from the 37th week onwards for distribution to the entrance classes by GL-Service gGmbH or the police.
IP GL has been working to increase the safety of first-graders by equipping them with reflective safety vests with the help of local sponsors. The KRÜGER GROUP, a company based in Bergisch Gladbach, provided financing for 1,070 safety vests for the children in 2025.
The European Mobility Week, which promotes sustainable mobility and road safety, will also be celebrated during the official handover of the safety vests at the Paffrath Community Primary School. The Infrastructure and Project Company Bergisch Gladbach (IP GL) GmbH has released a press statement about the safety vest donation, emphasising their commitment to the safety and well-being of the city's children.
