In a recent event, the Schnelles Foundation, a non-profit organisation established in November 2017, honoured a "good deed" with a monetary prize of 6,800 euros. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Burkhard Hintzsche, foundation founders Gisela and Dieter Schnelle, representatives of the support association for the historical school garden Raüscherweg, nature & meeting center e.V., the garden office, and the treasury.

The Schnelles Foundation, with its purpose and activities focused on preserving nature and the environment, has over 150 members from the entire city area. The foundation's annual prize is typically allocated to support initiatives aligned with its mission. This year, the prize money is being used for the maintenance of an orchard meadow in the school garden.

The school garden, which covers an area of almost one hectare, is not only a place for contemporary environmental education but also serves as an inner-city green space. The orchard meadows in the school garden have arisen from historical use and are maintained and cared for by the support association, which has been active in the school garden since 1996.

With the prize money, around 80 fruit trees will be pruned, a protective fence for the trees on the sheep pasture will be installed, and the blackberry hedges will be cut back. These actions will help maintain the health and beauty of the orchard meadows, ensuring they continue to thrive and provide a valuable learning environment for children, young people, and adults.

The Schnelles couple provides the foundation's assets, and the foundation board consists of Gisela and Dieter Schnelle, Hergen Reker from the Putlitz-Berge (Brandenburg) office, and Doris Törkel, director of the garden office of the state capital Düsseldorf. The foundation honours an annual "good deed" with a monetary prize, alternating between Putlitz-Berge (Brandenburg) and Düsseldorf.

The historical school garden facility is an important concern for the school garden, serving as a place for contemporary environmental education and a teaching and learning site for dealing with nature. The events organised by the support association in the school garden contribute significantly to the environmental education of children, young people, and adults, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for nature and the environment.

  1. The Schnelles Foundation, dedicated to environmental science and education, will use this year's prize money to maintain and preserve the orchard meadows in the school garden, fostering a valuable learning environment for children, young people, and adults through science and self-development.
  2. The historical school garden, a hub for contemporary environmental education and inner-city green space, is cared for by the support association, with the science-focused Schnelles Foundation contributing to its upkeep, promoting education and self-development in the area of environmental science.
